The Wainwright Fells

The Wainwright Fells

I completed all 214 of the Lake District Wainwright Fells today. Not all today, that would be something to brag about, it’s taken me about two years. Today was the last one, Haystacks.

Almost every Sunday morning at 7.00am, I’ve grabbed my boots, threw a cheese and jam sandwich into my rucksack and headed out.

Quick Pen Sketches

Quick Pen Sketches

For, wait let’s count, the last 44 days I’ve been doing a quick celeb sketch using my biro pen. I thought if I couldn’t make a mistake then that would be a good thing, but there were many times when I wished I could’ve used my most used creative device, my rubber.

Here’s my sketches, some are better than others. And, yes, I did watch James Bond, Lord of the Rings and Friends during this 44 day period.

Me as Clint

Me as Clint

I’ve thought of a concept and it’s entitled ‘Me Only Better.’

It came about when I was watching ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ at the weekend and I said to myself (because no one else would watch it with me), if I was a cowboy this is what I’d be like.

This is absolute coswallop since I would make the worsed cowboy in the world, having not had a fight since the playground and being scared of guns. Putting that aside, I decided to draw Clint with my head.

1 Hour Acrylic Sketches

1 Hour Acrylic Sketches

When I knew I was going on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year I pooed myself a little and realized I’d never tried painting fast before or under any sort of major time constraints.

So I thought, let’s go for acrylic because it dries almost before the brush hits the canvas, so any mistakes can be corrected quickly. I decided to see what I could do within an hour and this is what I came up with.

Posh at the wedding

Posh at the wedding

I was forced to watch the wedding, well not exactly forced, but all I kept hearing from the living room when I was painting was ‘Oh my god’ and ‘that’s amazing’ and general gasps and ooooohhhs. How is a nosy person supposed to cope with that?

In the end, I gave up and watched the damn thing.

Posh smile, you’re on telly. Even my sketch as a slight, tiny little smirk.

Art Styles – Romanesque to Renaissance

Art Styles – Romanesque to Renaissance

I wanted to get my head round all the art styles that have come and gone through the ages, so I’ve put together a summary for people like me who like to keep things brief and superficial. The pictures are nice though.

I’ve started at the Romanesque period.

Romanesque – about 1000 AD to 1200AD

The artists in this period used mainly primary colours (because they didn’t have any others), had very little depth, and (like me) didn’t like landscape backgrounds….

Brief History of Writing

Brief History of Writing

If you’re ever asked where something originated, always say Mesopotamia 5000 years ago, that’s what I always do. And today is no different.

Writing began in Mesopotamia 5000 years ago.

In fact, the whole of civilization seems to zoom in on those clever people from the city of Sumer around 3100 BC. They transformed a system of clay tokens for counting sheep
